Florida Hedgenettle, Florida Betony
Scientific name: Stachys floridana
This member of the mint family is an easy, mowable groundcover that will spread (which can be great or not so great depending on what you’re trying to accomplish). It was once endemic to Florida, but moved to other parts of the Southeast. The flowers look a lot like our native Salvias except they are a light pink/purple.
The leaves, stems, seeds, and tubers are edible. The leaves can be dried and used for a tea.
The plant likes sun or shade and soil that is usually moist (with occasional flooding) to soil that is neither wet nor extremely dry.
Size: assorted small pots
